“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and mankind,

the man Christ Jesus”

(1 Timothy 2:5)

        A mediator is someone who helps to make peace between people who are arguing and having trouble,  in order to restore their broken relationship.

        God has trouble with us because of sin.  Sin is anything we do, say, think, or feel that does not please God.  God is not pleased with our sin.   The rightful punishment for sin is not only physical death but eternal death that causes us to be separated from God. (Romans 6:23).   

        Nothing we could do on our own would be good enough to mediate between ourselves and a Holy God.  Jesus is the only one who will represent those who have placed their trust in Him.  Some day we will face God, but we will do so as totally forgiven sinners because of Jesus’ death and resurrection on our behalf.  On the cross Jesus helped us make peace with God by exchanging our sin for His righteousness

(2 Corinthians 5:21)  making it possible for our troubled broken relationship with the God to be restored.  Jesus is our Mediator!
